The Shakedown Cruise is to ensure that all is working after the winter lay-up. This year it was a visit to Fambridge Yacht Haven, which was ideal as one of the participants found they had a gearbox problem. The weather was bright and sunny if not a little chilly in the breeze. However this didn’t deter five boats from making the short trip up river. The four motor boats left mid-morning with the sailing craft, Carrie, taking advantage of the incoming tide leaving a little later. After Fred decided to have a rest on Carrie at the entrance to the marina, we were all tied up in our moorings enjoying the spring evening with a gin & tonic or two. The evening was spent in the marina’s restaurant where we were joined by friends from West Wick Yacht Club. Great food and good company made a fantastic evening. Next morning was spent relaxing before the short hop back to Essex Marina. This cruise was one for the record books as all three flag officers attended this cruise, something that has not happened for a while.
